Bluetooth, and pairing something
Pair a device confidently, and know the four reasons it usually refuses.
There are two separate acts, and confusing them is behind most Bluetooth frustration.
When a paired device connects but misbehaves — sound in one ear, or a car that will not pick up calls — the repair is to forget it and pair it again. Forget is in the Bluetooth list, behind the small i or the cog beside the device’s name. Nothing is lost by doing it.
Key points
- Bluetooth is a short radio between two devices — no internet, no cost, no data used
- Pairing happens once; connecting afterwards happens by itself
- Flashing light means findable; steady means it will not appear
- Flat, busy, too far, or never put into pairing mode — the causes stop there
What to remember
- Pairing is the introduction and it happens once. Everything after that is the two of them saying hello by themselves.
- Four things stop it: not in pairing mode, dead, busy elsewhere, or too far away. Nothing about networks matters in the least.
- Flashing means findable. If the light is steady, nothing on earth will see it.
Try this
Open the Bluetooth list on your own phone and read what is in it. Most people find two or three things they no longer own, and forgetting those tidies it considerably.
