Share a calendar with family
Let one person see the appointments you choose, and take it back whenever you like.
People hesitate over this because they picture handing over the whole calendar. You do not. Sharing happens one calendar at a time, and you can have as many calendars as you like.
The tidy arrangement is two: a Personal one that stays yours, and an Appointments one you share. Anything you would rather keep to yourself goes in the first.
Key points
- Keep one private calendar and one you are happy to share
- Invite one person and choose exactly what they may do
- Move somebody between busy-only, read-only and full access
- Stop sharing in one press, with no explanation owed to anybody
What to remember
- Two calendars — one private, one shared — is the arrangement that makes this comfortable.
- One calendar shared, the rest private. That is why the first step was making a second calendar rather than sharing the first.
- Sharing is a dial, not a switch. Between full access and nothing at all there is a comfortable middle.
Try this
Make a second calendar on your own phone or computer and call it Appointments. You do not have to share it with anybody today — having somewhere sensible to put things is worth it on its own.
