A group photograph with everyone in it

Take a group photograph where nobody is cut in half, nobody is blinking, and you are in it too.

Group photographs are the ones people actually keep, and the ones most likely to disappoint. The failures are wonderfully predictable.

Key points

• Use the 0.5 lens when the group is wider than the picture
• Prop the phone up and set a ten-second timer so you are in it too
• Hold the shutter down for a burst, and keep the frame where nobody blinked
• Delete the other nine, so one good photograph does not cost ten pictures of room

What to remember

• Wide lens, timer, burst. Those three between them fix nearly every group photograph.
• The 0.5 button is the most useful thing on a modern camera screen and the least used.
