Say what the cloud actually is
Explain the cloud in one sentence, and say where your own things are kept.
The cloud means a copy of your things is kept on a company’s machines elsewhere, and shown to you over the internet.
It is a hard disk in a warehouse. The advantage is that losing your phone does not lose the photographs.
Key points
- The cloud is a copy of your things on somebody else’s computer
- Losing the device does not lose what is kept there
What to remember
- Two copies, kept in step. The one in the warehouse is the one that survives.
- The point of the cloud is that losing the device does not lose the things.
Try this
Open a photograph on your own phone and look for an information button — often a small “i”, or a swipe upwards. It will say where that picture is kept.
