Nearly every public library in the country lends books and audiobooks to tablets. It costs nothing, it needs no post, and the card in your purse is the only paperwork involved.
It works exactly like the building. You borrow a book for three weeks. Somebody else cannot have it while you do. When the three weeks are up it goes back by itself, and there is no fine, because there is nothing to forget to return.
