Know when a slow tablet is genuinely finished
Tell the difference between a tablet that needs attention and one that is done.
Nobody should replace a working tablet out of vague frustration. Slowness has causes, and three of the four are fixable this afternoon.
Cause one is full storage. A tablet with almost no free space becomes sluggish everywhere at once. Check the storage number. If free space is under about a tenth of the total, clear photos and unused apps first and judge again afterward.
Cause two is a tired battery. It shows up as sudden shutdowns, or a charge that vanishes in three hours. Many tablets report battery health in settings. A battery can often be replaced for far less than a new tablet costs.
Cause three is simply never restarting. A tablet left on for months accumulates clutter in memory. Hold the power button, turn it fully off, wait, turn it back on. Do this before concluding anything.
Cause four is the one that ends things. When the maker stops issuing security updates, the tablet stops receiving fixes for newly discovered flaws. Apps and banks begin refusing to run on it. Nothing you do brings that back. That, and not slowness, is what genuinely finishes a tablet.
