Send a photograph to the family group
Send a picture to everybody at once, and save the ones they send back to you.
A photograph goes to a conversation in two halves, and the gap between them is where all the comfort is.
Between those two you can write a line to go with it, add a second picture, or take the whole thing off again. Nothing has gone anywhere until the Send button is pressed. Yours will look a little different, but that pause is always there.

Find a photograph somebody sent you that you would be sorry to lose, open it full size, and look for Save. It is worth doing before the app tidies that conversation away.
