Open things without the mouse
Open anything with one key and your fingers, and pin what you use weekly so it is never hunted for again.
You do not have to find the Search box at all. There is a key that opens it wherever you are.
Press it, type three or four letters, and press Enter when the thing you want is at the top. Many people who look effortless with a computer are doing only this.
Key points
- Use the Windows key, or Cmd and the space bar on a Mac, without touching the mouse
- Pin the things you use weekly so they are always one press away
- Take a pin off again when you change your mind
What to remember
- Pinning is how you make a computer fit your life rather than the other way round.
- Pinning is undoable. That is why it is worth doing to anything you open weekly.
Try this
Pin one thing you open every week to the bar along the bottom. Tomorrow morning it will be there waiting, and that small piece of the machine will have been arranged by you rather than by whoever sold it.
