What airplane mode is for
Use airplane mode on purpose, not just on airplanes.
Your phone has several radios inside it, all talking constantly.
There is one for cell service, one for Wi-Fi, and one for Bluetooth. Airplane mode shuts them all off with a single tap, and one more tap wakes them back up.
That makes it useful well beyond flying. If your signal is stuck on one bar, or a call keeps failing, flip airplane mode on, count to ten, and flip it off. The phone hunts for a fresh connection.
It is also a quiet button. With the radios off, nothing new can arrive, so no calls or messages interrupt a nap.
