Putting it back the way you like it
Sit down at a computer somebody else has been using, set it up for your own eyes, and find something that looks as though it has been lost — with nobody telling you how.
Everything in this course has been building toward one quiet idea: the machine is not in charge, and almost nothing you do to it is permanent.
So here is a practice computer that somebody else has had their hands on. Two things about it are wrong, and both are the sort of wrong that people ring their children about. There are no instructions this time, and no right order — do it in whichever order makes sense to you.
Key points
- Open a program, do something in it, and put the window away again.
- Set the size of the writing on a computer to suit your own eyes, not somebody else’s.
- Find something that has been deleted and put it back where it was.
What to remember
- Text size sits in the settings of every computer, tablet and phone you will ever hold, and it is nobody’s business but yours. The Recycle Bin on your own machine has been quietly keeping everything you have deleted for weeks — go and look, and you will find things you thought were long gone.
- Honestly — how was that?
Try this
Find the text size on your own computer, tablet or phone and move it one notch up. Sit with it for an evening. If you do not like it, move it back — that is the entire risk.
