Junk, folders and a tidy-enough inbox
Stop deleting things out of anxiety, and clear an inbox knowing you can find any of it again.
Most people treat every email as a decision: keep it, or lose it forever. That is exhausting, and no modern email system is built that way.
Folders still exist, but search has quietly made them optional. A sender’s name, or one word from the subject, finds a message faster than remembering where you filed it.
Key points
- Archive clears the inbox without deleting anything — search still finds it
- The search box has made folders optional; use them if you enjoy them
- Stop treating every message as a decision about the future
What to remember
- Archive clears an inbox without forty small decisions about the future.
- Archive empties the inbox. Search is what makes that safe — the message never went anywhere.
- Roughly how many messages are sitting in your inbox at the moment?
Try this
Select everything in your inbox older than a year and archive the lot in one press. Nothing is deleted, search still reaches all of it, and the feeling of the empty screen is the point of the exercise.
