Say what a wake word is
What the phrase at the front is for, and what a device does before it hears one.
A wake word is the phrase that tells a device you are speaking to it: “Hey Siri”, “Alexa”, “Hey Google”.
Until it hears that phrase, sound in the room is checked and dropped.
Key points
- A wake word tells a device you are speaking to it
- It has to come first, and a light shows once it is heard
What to remember
- The light is the honest part: no light, no listening.
- Waiting for one phrase is not the same as recording a room.
Try this
Say your device’s wake word and watch for the light. That is listening.
