Say why an app looks stretched
Why some apps look coarse on an iPad, and what the little button in the corner does.
Some apps were only ever drawn for a phone. On an iPad they run in a phone-shaped box with black bands beside it.
Blown up to fill the screen, that same picture is only made bigger, so letters soften.
Key points
- Some apps were only ever drawn for a phone screen
- Filling the screen enlarges that same picture, so it softens
What to remember
- The little button in the corner switches between them.
- Black bands mean a phone app on a bigger screen.
Try this
If an app looks coarse, find the small button in a corner marked 1x or 2x.
