Save it as a PDF instead
Turn anything into a PDF, which arrives looking exactly as you made it and cannot be altered by accident.
In every print panel there is an entry that is not a machine at all. Choosing it produces not a piece of paper but a file — and that file is very often the better answer.
A useful habit for anything that matters: keep the document so you can amend it later, and keep the PDF so you know exactly what left the house and on which day.
Key points
- Turn any document into a PDF from the print panel.
- Say what a PDF is for, and when to send one instead of a document.
- Send a file to somebody straight from the folder it is sitting in.
What to remember
- Print, then choose Save as PDF, then Save. The Print button changes its own wording to Save once you do.
- Send a PDF when the thing is finished. Send the document itself only when you want somebody to work on it.
- Share on a computer does the same job as Share on a phone. It attaches the file for you.
Try this
Open anything you have written, press Print, and change the printer to Save as PDF. Give it a name and save it to Documents. Then open the PDF and look at it. No paper, no ink, and a copy you can send to anybody.
