Stretch a low battery to the end of the evening
Double what is left at 20 percent, and see exactly which app has been draining it.
Twenty percent on a tablet is not the emergency it is on a phone. It is an hour or two of reading, or about forty minutes of a movie.
You have three sensible moves, and they are not equally useful. The one everybody reaches for — closing all the apps — is the one that does almost nothing.
Key points
- Double what is left with brightness down and Low Power Mode on
- See exactly which app took the power, and stop it working behind your back
- Read a battery list without assuming it is wrong
What to remember
- If one app is at the top of this list and you do not recognize it, that is worth investigating. Usually it is simply the thing you watched.
- The battery list shows what the tablet was doing, not what you were doing. The gap is where the power went.
Try this
Open Settings, then Battery, on your own tablet and look at the list of what used the power yesterday. You are looking for one thing: whether the top of the list is something you remember doing.
Practice: Stretch a low battery to the end of the evening. Your first lesson is free, with no account or card; the rest are part of a Lantern plan. Interactive lessons require JavaScript.
