Two days before Sandhaven
Get everything one day depends on out of your emails and into one place on the device itself, so that a lost signal on a train costs you nothing at all.
A tablet is the machine you take with you, and that makes one question matter more on it than on anything else in the house: is this actually on here, or am I only being shown it?
So here is a practice machine two days before a journey. Everything Thursday depends on is somewhere, and not all of those somewheres are on this computer. Nothing on the screen will tell you which is which, and there is no order it has to be done in.
Key points
- Get something out of an email and onto the machine, so that it stops depending on a signal.
- Keep the things belonging to one occasion in one place, under a name you would think of.
- Tell the message that matters from the one that arrived first.
What to remember
- Something inside an email is not on your device. It is on somebody else’s computer being shown to you, and that is a fine arrangement right up until the signal goes. Saving it makes it yours. Putting it with the rest of the day means you are not hunting through an inbox on a platform with a bag in each hand. A tablet is only ever as good as what is actually on it, and the folder you make there is the folder you will look in — which is why it is worth calling it what the day is called, rather than New folder.
- Honestly — how was that?
Try this
Take the next thing that arrives as an attachment — a ticket, an appointment letter, a receipt — and save it onto the device before you close the message. Then go and find it. Knowing where it landed is most of the skill, and it lands in the same place every time.
